Counter to most citizens trying to lose a few pounds, football players are best when they bulk up their muscle for victory in the game. Eating a lot is important; but eating healthy is even more important. Look for anything that lets you add proteins and calories without bad fats. Use natural, healthy ingredients, like olive oil, to enhance pasta, vegetables and even shakes.

How hard you work will affect how well you play. Some players benefit from being naturally talented but successful players will tell you that they worked very hard to get where they are. Your coach will appreciate a player that learns and works hard over a player that has natural abilities but is lazy.

Using proper technique is important when catching a football in the rain. Avoid slipping by pointing your feet towards the ball. This offers you better control when you do catch the ball. Make sure that your torso and hips are facing toward the ball, as well. Catch the ball with both hands.

Your team will score extra points if you’re able to kick field goals. When you’re all in a fourth-down maneuver, attempt to do a field goal. If your kicker can make the goal, then go for it. Remember that any field goal gives you three extra points.

Improve flexibility in your hips by putting five cones about 5 yards from each other in a line. Run fast in a zigzag pattern by starting at the cone on one end and continuing to the other end. Lean toward the direction you need to go, head up and eyes looking down field.

To help boost stamina and endurance, run shuttle runs. Start at the goal line and run as fast as you can to the 10 yard line. Tap it with your hand. Then reverse back to the goal line and tap it. Do this over and over again daily, and document the results to monitor your progress.

If you are the receiver, it’s important to be quick. To develop your speed, practice in a specific running area. This can be done by placing two cones about 10 yards apart. Make a touchdown. The offense in each game has a goal of getting the ball and making a touchdown. To get a touchdown, a single player must bring the ball over the opposition goal line, or catch a pass thrown to them as they are inside the end zone. Try paying attention to the amount of time that’s left on the game clock and using that to help your team. If the game is nearing its end, and you have the ball and you’re down, you don’t want to run down the clock.

Besides the physical training, the mental prowess is an important part of a stand-out player. You must study the game more than the other players you hope to defeat. Try to watch older games so that you can see all aspects of the game as a spectator. Being able to anticipate an opponent’s actions and using strategic moves separates good players from the legendary ones.

You should dress properly for the weather conditions. Think of these things before getting started, so that when you begin you aren’t distracted.

Send a highlight DVD of your best plays to all colleges you apply to. Apply to a variety of schools. Your first choice may not recruit you to play for them, so you need to have options.

Be sure to work out regularly. Weight lifting is definitely important for football players. Having a strong body will make it easier to thrive and survive when you play. It’s important to work all your muscle groups. Don’t solely work on your arms and chest. Build leg strength to develop a powerful start of the line.

Build agility. A few great exercises include rope jumping, tire running, and cone slaloms. Doing this will greatly increase your agility on the field and make you a more competitive player. Practice agility exercises as a part of your regular workout.
