As you run the bases all your attention should be towards the coach and not where the ball is. They can serve as your eyes. If they motion for you to stop, you should listen. If they are signaling go, run at full speed.

Know where every other player is located on the field at all times during a baseball game. Lots of collisions can be prevented just by paying attention to the location of players. Always look at the batter, even when in the outfield. Normally, a right handed hitter will hit the ball to left field. Conversely, when a leftie is up at bat, you’ll see more balls headed for right field. Knowing how batting works will allow you to figure out where you can expect the ball to go when the pitch gets thrown.

Sprint from one side of the field to the other to warm up. This will help you to improve your in game skills. After hitting the ball, you have to sprint quickly to the first base. A quick start to your sprint is essential if you want to beat a baseball that can be thrown much quicker than you could ever hope to run.

Make sure that you break the glove in before the start of the pre-season practices. It is great to have scored a new glove, but you need to have it ready for game time. Toss a baseball repeatedly into it. Use leather softener to break in the leather. The weave can be punched with a fist. A broken in glove will work much better in practice.

Choke up on the baseball bat a bit if your baseball swing is a little slow. This will give you more control of the bat. Your swing will then be faster and more compact. It could give you an advantage if a pitcher is particularly fast.
